Queen’s Gambit Inspirations

I binged Queen’s Gambit when it came out and like it a lot. The show was 100% carried by Anya Taylor Joy’s expressions. but there was one scene in particular I couldn’t stop thinking about…

This makeup look killed me! Without specific spoilers, it happens at one of the low points for Beth. She’s late for an obligation because she just rolled out of bed and we’re supposed to believe that she did this makeup?

It looks so funky and kept growing on me as I thought about it more. So I did a few things with it.

I drew this for a drawing challenge, where we were supposed to draw in the style of another artist. The artist does popular celebrity caricatures using a lot of Photoshop blending effect layers. I usually don’t use many of the effects layers, so it was tricky to get a result I liked.

Next I was curious about what the makeup look would look like on a “normal” face, since I get the sense Anya Taylor Joy will look beautiful no matter what. So I threw together a Cosplay at home.

I didn’t hate it! My version had to be all purple though. I don’t really own any green clothes.
